Georgie Porgie was a duke, of Buckingham, no less. And a pretty young duke was he. He went both ways; pudding and pie. King James, Queen Anne, and assorted others, we can presume. He kissed the girls, the boys, made them all cry, because, face it, Georgie was a bastard.
But what are we to make of "When the boys came out to play, Georgie Porgie ran away?" Are the boys Parliament? They did try to impeach Georgie for screwing up a piracy expedition, but he didn't have to run away - the King (Charles I by then) simply dissolved Parliament. Case dismissed.
Nor did he run away at war in France. Sent 4000 of his men to their maker, and would have sent more had not one of his officers done him in.
I have no idea where that running away stuff comes from.
