Saint Roch

Born to wealth, gave it away. Tended plague victims until he came down with the plague. Exiled to live in a hut in the woods. Kept alive by a dog who fed him bread. Returned to the city where he was locked up as a spy. Died in prison five years later. Venerated as Patron Saint of Plague Victims and Dogs. Miraculously, no one ever died of contagion again.
