radial skarn

  1. Now, now, mon frer. As I am sure you are well aware, a skarn is a superheated area of sedimentary strata surrounding a magmatic or volcanic intrusion. The intense heat in such close contact with previously layered, low-temperature deposits results in metamorphic alterations to the surrounding sedimentary strata and changes the crystallization habits of the adjacent rock. Magnet Cove is a prime example of skarn deposits, and is, strangely enough, one of the only places where a radial skarn habit may (or may not) exist. Not enough excavations or test pits have been performed to prove or disprove the radial skarn possibilities, but as you might surmise from your own adventures in The Cove, it seems likely that this is so.

    Or do you disagree?

Either way, the Face you have created reminds me of what often has guided me to some of the richer deposits of microcrystalline minerals (of which, The Cove is particularly blessed), as well as brookite, bipyrimidal magnetite, and several versions of carbonatite, rutile, and other titanium-rich deposits, multiple one-of-a-kind pseudomorphs, and molybdenum-coated pyrite crystal alluvial deposits.

But this, I'm sure, you already know.

I like the fact that you put a face to My Guide.

    And probably Yours, too.

    Damn, I miss that place.

  2. I had mapped out a cove trip on bike via van about two months ago but rain came and creeks ran too high, but it's still mapped and I will go. Also to Jeffrey. No bike there, just snorks and fins. As for skarn-gredients, you geo-know morn I do.. I just like the words.

  3. I got a big hard on for both The Cove and Jeffrey, especially the latter. The last time I was there (you heard this, I'm sure),I found what appeared to be an abandoned car at the Little Pond, doors open, engine cold. I seriously suspected foul play when I found no one after an hour search, so I called the sheriff. A black deputy met me at Trapp Road and I took him into the quarry via my 4x4, using roads to which he had keys. He was really cool, and marveled at the place. It should be a park. You know this. We got to the 'abandoned' car and it was gone.

    I only want to know....

HOW THE HELL DID IT GET IN THERE????

I want to get in there with scuba gear.....

  4. Skarn really is a good word. Along with fishhead, dubious, trout and galumph. I will not mention plorg, diddle, sepsis, or grottenwalder.
    Too late.

  5. Excuse me, but I never heard that story about the abandoned car. So many questions... 'Roads to which he had keys.' Huh? And what 4x4? Is there a car with bodies under the water? And what's a grottenwalder? I find Grafenwalder; it's a German lager. Supposed to be right up there with Lone Star.
