Astronomers Find Nothing

Astronomers at the University of Minnesota, searching the sky for star clusters and distant galaxies, found instead nothing.

Astrophysicist Gordon Greenaway described the discovery as "very significant." He likened the find to last year's speculative theory by astronomers at the University of Wisconsin which more or less determined that space, in addition to being curved, has a curlycued tail.

"The nothing we found is significantly larger than any areas of nothing we've previously encountered," said Greenaway. "We are at a loss to explain it. All rational thought would lead us to believe that something should be there, but as far as we can detect, nothing is."

Determining the exact size of this vast nothingness is the next step for astronomers, after which they will try to answer why nothing exists and what nothing, if anything, consists of.

Of COURSE they found nothing. Any goobleknob knows that space is not only curved, it is totally spherical. ALL things in nature are round, cyclical or spherical, as proposed in the theory of Zen Driving. All things, that is, except for human nature, which continues to plod along on a linear path. That is precisely why nothing is out there; the deeper you look, the more you only see US.

Perty scary, if'n yew axe me.

  2. Your theory is flawed, gobbleknob. You say "The deeper you look, the more you see only US." If, by this, you mean the more I only see the collective plural or you and me, your postulation is grammatically incorrect, and therefore suspect. If the US is you and somebody else, I have to wonder why there's no me or my kind present. And if the US is the United States, I have to say you are suffering from nationalistic jingoism and you are probably a Republican, which automatically negates your thesis. I therefore demand a retraction.

I am nor Republican, sirrah, and must object to your claim that being such would "automatically negate my thesis." When it comes to circular behaviour, i.e, ending up just where you started, Republicans wrote the book.

I do mean the plural of humanity in the word US. It has been proposed that we should indeed go back to the moon, and in this I agree in one point only; we need to build a telescope up there and turn it back on this planet. Maybe then we could figure out just what the heck is goin' on down here. Until we learn to at least bend our linear behaviour, our species will shoot off into the ectoshphere with barely the ability to look back, much less learn from where our muddy tracks have been and in just what we trod.

  4. Oooo, so deeply metaphorical. But wrong. Our lot's to stumble blindly, not gaze navelly. Besides, we have a space station to look at ourselfs; we need the moon for storing our nuclear waste.

See? A perfect example of linear human behaviour. I need a donut.
